Roger Williams Park Zoo announces the passing of Action the harbor seal

Wednesday, May 29, 2019
It is with great sadness that Roger Williams Park Zoo announces the death of Action, the cherished 19-year-old harbor seal.

Action passed away suddenly on Tuesday, May 28.  This past February Action, along with the Zoo’s other harbor seal Bubba, underwent cataract surgery.  Both seals made a full recovery and were out greeting guests soon after the operation.

Action was a favorite for Zoo visitors who came to feed the seals, and learn about the life, habits and interesting facts regarding this species.

Action was also a favorite with his keepers.  He greeted them each morning and was always happy to meet guests who wanted to feed him fish and other similar treats.

Action was born in 2000 at Sea World and joined the Roger Williams Park Zoo family on July 7, 2001.

Everyone at the Zoo will miss Action.  We ask those with remembrances of Action to either share photos and thoughts on the Zoo’s Facebook page -; or on Instagram so Action’s keepers may see your remembrances and kind words.
