Wizarding Nights at the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular
October 17, 2018 - 6:00pm to October 18, 2018 - 8:00pm
Event Information

Wizards and witches get your wands, mount your brooms and fly on over to meet some of the characters from the wizarding world, presented by Dual Edge Photography.  Try a butter brew, then travel the pumpkin trail, and identify characters and scenes from the wizarding world. Free a house elf by donating new clean children's socks to Project Undercover to provide necessities to underserved children in Rhode Island.

Date: Wednesday, October 17 and Thursday, October 18

Fairy Tale Nights at the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular

Meet and take photos with beloved fairy tale characters.  Grab a “poison apple” and then as the sun sets, find your favorite fairy tales characters intricately carved on the pumpkins at the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular at Roger Williams Park Zoo.

Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular

Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular, presented by Citizens Bank, at Roger Williams Park Zoo is celebrating 30 years of Halloween magic October 4 – November 4. Called EXTRAORDINARY by both CNN and USA Today, this year’s show includes more than 5,000 intricately carved pumpkins featuring scenes of wizards, fairytales, and the luminaries of great myths and legends, alongside superheroes, and historical figures who changed our world. Revel in the sights and sounds of the season, and celebrate this otherworldly experience.Mark your calendars - Tickets on-sale NOW!

Experience the Soaring Eagle Zip Ride during the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular from 115 feet above the earth.

Riders see out over Providence and into Narragansett Bay in comfortable side-by-side seats. The Soaring Eagle Zip Ride is open every night during the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular - weather permitting. Restrictions apply.

Sensory-friendly days at Carousel Village

Event Information

On the first Tuesday of each month (Now - October), Carousel Village offers Sensory-Friendly Days. We invite those with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and sensory processing differences to explore and enjoy Carousel Village.

For maximum comfort, there will be no music or indoor lights. The Carousel, bounce house and playground will be open to the public, as well as train and pony rides (weather permitting).

Zoo School

Event Information

Join Roger Williams Park Zoo for a series of monthly, hour long classes designed for homeschool students. These drop-off classes start in September and run through April. Pre-registration is required.

*Please note: A Roger Williams Park Zoo or Reciprocal Membership is required for all non- Zoo School participants including parents, guardians, and siblings. Without a membership, non- zoo school participants, entering the zoo for drop-off, will be required to pay admission.

Dates: 9/21, 10/19, 11/16, 12/21, 1/18, 2/15, 3/15 & 4/12

Cost:

  • Ages 4 - 12: $104 for the series
  • Ages 13 - 16: $144 for the series

Themes:

  • Animal Exploration (Ages 4 & 5): 10:30 - 11:30 am or 12:00 - 1:00 pm
    • A great introduction to Zoo School! Participants will explore a specific animal each month through stories, crafts, games, centers and encounters with animal ambassadors. For the safety of the participants, this class does not include exploration within the Zoo. *Please note even though the theme is same as the 2017-2018 Zoo School Series, all of the monthly topics will be different.*
    • Register for Ages 4-5 10:30-11:30 am
    • Register for Ages 4-5 12:00-1:00 pm
  • Physical Adaptations (Ages 6-8): 10:30 - 11:30 am (geared toward 6-7 year olds) or 12:00 - 1:00 pm (geared toward 7-8 year olds)
  • Behavioral Adaptations (Ages 9 - 12):  10:30 - 11:30 am or 12:00 - 1:00 pm
  • Diversity of Life (Ages 13 - 16):  1:30 - 2:30 pm
    • Through interactive lessons, encounters with animal ambassadors and Zoo exploration, participants will dig deeper into the biodiversity of our planet.
    • Register for Ages 13-16 1:30-2:30 pm

Yoga with the Elephants

A co-hosted event with Roger Williams Park Zoo and Laughing Elephant Yoga

Spend a Sunday morning on your mat adjacent to the majestic elephants at Roger Williams Park Zoo!  Reconnect with your mind and body as waterfalls create the serene backdrop with the elephants before the Zoo opens to the public. Complimentary fresh fruit cup and bottled water. Continue your journey with a leisurely stroll through the zoo, and enjoy visiting with all the animals in a beautiful setting. 

Date: Sunday, September 16
Time: 8:30 am - 10:00 am (8:00 am check-in)
Cost: $35 per guest; price includes Zoo admission for one adult
What to Bring:  Must provide own yoga mat and towel, water for class.

Please note: All activities are OUTSIDE.  NO REFUNDS (in the event of bad weather the class will be rescheduled to Sunday, September 23.)   Yoga class is for All Levels, and guided by a professional instructor from Laughing Elephant Yoga.

Pollinator-Friendly Gardening Lecture

This evening lecture will feature professionals in the field. Topics will include: choosing the best plants for pollinators, and how to use and manage the plants effectively to create beautiful pollinator habitats. Participants will tour the Zoo's newly planted pollinator garden.

Pollinate New England is an initiative to raise awareness of the steep decline in the insects, birds, and other animals that pollinate our plants and crops, and to encourage people to use native plants in their gardens to create habitat for these critical species.

Please note: This lecture is appropriate for master gardeners, professionals, or anyone with some gardening experience.

Garden Installation Workshop
September 6, 2018 - 1:00pm to 4:00pm

This workshop is for novice gardeners who may need help getting started with tools, site preparation, plants, planting methods, plant, care, etc. Gardeners will install a 150 sq. ft. rain garden at the Zoo.

Brew at the Zoo

Event Information

Tap into your wild side at Brew at the Zoo, an adults-only evening event, and sample more than 170 beers from 80+ local, regional and national brewers. Enjoy live music, animal encounters and more at Rhode Island's largest outdoor beer festival. Please note: Saturday, August 25, the Zoo opens at 9:00 am, last ticket will be sold at noon, and the Zoo will close at 1:00 pm for Brew at the Zoo. This is a 21+ event, and no person under the age of 21 will be permitted (this includes young children and infants in strollers). All attendees are required to show a valid ID. Rain or shine, tickets are non-refundable.
